What is a "Krewe?"

Whether you're a Mardi Gras insider or a new comer to all the fun, we thought it might be interesting to explore the origin and meaning of "Krewe." The term "krewe" was first coined by one of the original New Orleans Carnival groups, the Mystick Krewe of Comus, in 1857. "Krewe," pronounced that same as the regular spelling of the word "crew," is an organization that celebrates Mardi Gras with either a ball, a parade, or both.

The Mystick Krewe of Crawfish seeks to spread the celebration from the Gulf Coast to the Blue Ridge Mountains. We bring the Carnival spirit from the bayous surrounding New Orleans, the festivities along St. Charles Avenue and Bourbon Street, and the shores of Lake Ponchartrain to the rocking and rolling hills of Western North Carolina.

Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez! That's "Let the Good Times Roll" as spoken by denizens of the bayous of south Louisiana.

The Mystick Krewe of Crawfish is a new business dedicated to bringing a taste of the bayou, and some good times, to the mountains of Western North Carolina with custom crawfish, shrimp, and crab boils for your backyard party, family reunion, corporate event, or family-and-friend get together.

We'll also be cookin' up some holiday favorites throughout the year, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas deep fried cajun-style turkeys, Mardi Gras King Cakes, made to order pots of gumbo, and much, much more.
